After a less than a year of extremely joyful ownership, I sold my 2001 330ci. It was certainly a great car, but not devoid of the same problems as every E46 I've owned. I'm definitely sad to see it go, but I'm not sad that it will be replaced with another e46 M3, this time one that isn't an SMG. Bye bye bimmer. I can't wait for your successor.

I remember saying goodbye to my E46 M3. Owned it from new in Dec. 2001 all the way to Feb. 2011. It was one of the first with the bearing problems and actually spun one while a service tech had it (I think he had a spirited drive after completing the service) at around 8800 miles the first year. Had a new engine swapped within 3 days, ran like a dream for the next 85k miles. Damn I miss that car.

Well, whoever bought got a really nice looking car.

Although, man, some dark wheels would set off that blacked out face rather nicely.

When I had bought the wheels, they while car still had all of the chrome and silver, so it flowed better. At some point I considered a hyper black powdercoat but I knew that I was moving to an M3 sooner rather than later. But you aren't the first to tell me and had I kept the car, it would have been the next step in line.

I would absolutely have loved to have a brand new E46 M3 like you wouldn't believe. But I was 8 years old when it deputed and that put me a bit out of reach of one. It was a dream of mine to own one for a very long time, and my short co-ownership of one was fun but lacking. I'm finally ready to have one for real. I don't plant on letting this one go for a very long time

Great looking car, can't wait to see her replacement. Gonna be so much sexier.

You're gonna let me drive it, right?

I am a sharing man, so don't rule it out. I might also be picking up an Imola on Schwarz E39 M5 at auction sometime soon with my friend, as a project car. The M3 excites me the most but both will be a treat to have around.

I envy your standard of living. Also, I'm pretty sure we aren't close enough to trade driver's seats. Because I don't see front plates in your picture...

Don't envy my standard of living hahaha. I'm an E3 in the marine corps, I just budget very well. I'm trying to turn some cars for profit, and I'm getting into that trade with a very trustworthy friend and BMW master mechanic. My first car was an e46 323 and I've loved the body style ever since. Rather than buy one outright, I gradually moved up the chain. The 330 helped me grow alot as a driver and as an owner, honestly. I have had the motor in all sorts of pieces. It hasn't been an easy ownership, although it was a good one.

Oh well I live in San Diego but technically I'm a resident of Ohio so no front plates for me. And the M3 I'm getting will more than likely have imola interior again. I plan on doing this if you need a seat in the future

how many times did your door sill's fall? my e46 drove me nuts with this. Finally got some goopy 3m black stuff that held them into place.

Those look very nice. I'm not sure if I've ever seen one up here, but I have down there. Lots more E46s that are nice and clean where you live.

The black plastic and aluminum sill? Mine never moved an inch. The only thing cosmetically I ever had that plagued my other e46s was the headliner and I just completely refinished it in black myself to save me some money

It had CSL software so it was quick, but got was it brutal to shift at wot and around town it was clunky. But it resold unbelieivably quick. The getrag they used I'm that car is a masterpiece itself, in manual or smg form. Too bad the smg pump is shit

I'm in love with the Recaros refinished in imola leather. It'll probably be a late upgrade though since I can practically get an ESS supercharger kit for roughly the same cost

One question though. How do I post multiple photos from the mobile Jalopnik site. I have a few more good ones I'd like to share

They've obviously got it right now with the DCT. I chose the 6-speed for my '08 E90 I bought last year. I'm planning to keep it a long time...

headliner was a bitch too. Im talking about the seals (not sill what was i thinking?) on the coupes. The fuzzy rubber thing that attacks you like a snake out of no where on a hot day.

I have wanted an E46 m3 since I was a kid, when mom bought an e46 323i that eventually would become my first car. But there is no doubt that I will come to own an e90 or e92, likely at the same time as this e46. My dream is to own as many timeless BMWs as possible, on top of many other cars.
But the S65B40 is a work of art on its own. Especially with velocity stacks. I've seen and heard the FMU E90 in person and its just bonkers.

As far as I know, you can't unless they're uploaded somewhere you can link to. You can post links, but only one picture.

Oh god yea they were horrible. Both coupes did it but never my sedan. And they didnt even have 3/4 of the miles combined as that did. Silicone and some painters tape for about a day did the trick. Until I had to pull it out to to pull off the headliner....

I usually use dropbox, since I have everything upload there automatically anyway. It's still a major pain.

its the plight of the e46. That said, I loved my smg.

Oh there's no doubt, I had a great time with mine. But even with all the socal traffic and the daily driving, I absolutely adore driving a manual transmission car. I won't track it enough to warrant an smg full time either.
